Comment: Several ruddy turnstones were observed picking through the seaweed and other detritus that had washed ashore in a recent storm. The behavior for which they derive the name, turnstone, was clearly in evidence. The birds used the top of their beaks to flip over small items apparently with the goal of searching for food underneath the item they flipped over. This behavior was common for the ruddy turnstones present. I didn't notice any of the black turnstones that were around engaging in a similar behavior.
